PIMR is abbreviation for Portable Implementation Repository.

You need this program in case if there are several CORBA services of different vendors in your net and you have to organize:
-  services startup by request
-  automatic program restart after failure
-  program state monitoring
-  in portable way that doesn't depend on ORB.

PIMR implements CORBA objects "general monitoring" technology - you can connect programs, which "don't know anything" about PIMR, to PIMR and they will be started by request and restarted after failure. Of course, in addition PIMR provides application programmers with interaction API.

Also PIMR uses new "scriptable configuration" technology, which means that configuration file is Tcl program. It's quite convenient for administrator, for it allows:
-  to simplify setup parameters, shortening standard common spots
-  to organize configuration information loading via net
-  to use conditional clauses in configuration
-  and many other things.
